Colwynn was annoyed. That wasn't really anything new though. She was usually annoyed whenever she was around people. It wasn't that she was socially awkward or anything. She knew the social norms and was more than capable of following them if the occasion called for it. She just didn't like people. Especially as a whole. She had come to the realization long ago that a person could be amazing, brilliant, and exceptional. However, human's herd mentality was absurd and had a tendency to bring out the worst in people.
That was why she liked animals so much. They were predictable, and rarely ever intentionally malicious. Sure, animals killed other animals sometimes, but that was only ever to eat. They were less complex and kinder.
As she climbed the tower she could already hear her new friends chatting up a storm on top of the spire and she couldn't help but smirk in spite of herself. Just like clockwork. When she got to the top she was greeted by an entire flock of ravens, all waiting patiently and squaking as they did so. "I know, I know, I'm late, hold your horses." Some of them hopped onto the ground to follow her to her spot on the floor at the edge of the tower, but most of them just patiently waited. Once she was seated she reached into her bag, grabbed a handful of birdseed and threw it out for the birds. They all hopped after the free meal and she waited until they were done before throwing out some more to them. She couldn't understand why people wouldn't like ravens. They were resourceful and clever creatures.
One of the birds dropped a shiny stone in front of her before it went hopping off to get more seeds. Despite how well she'd kept her composure, this was the first gift that the birds had given to her. She was grateful that it was a stone rather than a dead animal of some kind. In either case, she was just pleased to be included.
