Despite the fact that Aaron is – or rather was – a prominent figure in his field, most of the time he honestly hasn’t the foggiest idea as to what he’s doing. Honestly, at least 80% of his adult life Aaron has been winging it. However, he’s very confidant and charismatic so most of the time people aren’t aware of that. Or at least they don’t seem to be aware of that. Frankly, that’s a win in his book.
If you get to know Aaron beyond the professional setting he’s not that different than he was back before he was a dad. He’s still angry at his government, despite having worked for them most of his adult life, and would much rather spend his time writing music. Before he had to get a real job to make sure he could take care of his daughter he had been in a band. They were alright. They’d released a few singles, but hadn’t gotten famous by any means. Despite the fact that he loved sleeping in ratty hotels, making music, and performing most nights it wasn’t a lifestyle that would be healthy to raise a child in.
Despite that, he does miss it from time to time. Music is and was his first love. He still plays and writes music when he can, and made sure to teach his daughter as well. He still has dreams to do work in music, maybe writing a musical or something of the like.
Though Aaron hadn’t anticipated becoming a father, or even necessarily wanted it, he stepped into the role of a single dad pretty easily. His ex, his daughter’s mum, had left their daughter on his doorstep with a brief letter explaining how she would have been a shitty mother and it was up to Aaron to decide what would happen to their daughter. He agreed, his ex would have been a shite mother. Still, there was no chance in hell that he was ever going to let someone else raise his kid, even though he was still something of a child himself. He and his daughter have a good relationship and Aaron is immensely proud of her in most things she does.
Aaron was born and raised in Belfast. Almost all of his family was involved in the conflict between Britain and Ireland. In fact, several of his cousins were so involved that they were forced to leave the country, mostly moving to Canada or the United States. The fact that his parents didn’t have to leave is something that still astounds Aaron to this day, knowing all that they did. Still, with his background it shouldn’t have surprised anyone that became a punk in a rock band in his youth. His da taught him how to play the guitar when he was still knee high. Some of his favorite memories with his da were of them playing music together. His da was always supportive of Aaron’s dreams to be a musician, though he would have preferred his son singing sea shanties rather than Rage Against The Machine or System of a Down. Aaron’s da died when Aaron was still in school during his 6th year.
Despite being a rebellious kid, Aaron usually did well in school. That was mostly for his mum’s sake, though. Not to imply that he gotten into his fair share of trouble during his time at Hogwarts. The most trouble he got in was because he’d been caught sneaking into the Forbidden Forest. Not that he thought that should have surprised anyone. The forest was right there and the staff stressed the fact that it was off limits so of course students went there. Admittedly, not all of them had made friends with the centaurs there so he supposed him getting in trouble was fair. Still, despite this, he still left school with exceptional marks.
After school, Aaron and his girlfriend at the time went touring around Europe with his band. It was a great couple of years, despite the fact that his girlfriend was toxic as all hell. It seemed like they fought more often than they didn’t and they constantly broke up and then got back together. They’d been broken up for months when he heard from Ella for the last time. His mum sent him an urgent owl while he was in Brussells telling him to come home immediately, but she didn’t say why. When he got home his mum had a baby with her and a letter from his ex girlfriend. Initially, he wanted to give his daughter up for adoption, but after his mum made him hold the baby so that she could make a bottle for the girl all bets were off. He’d quit the band and moved back in with his mum to take a crash course in child care. Not long after that, he got a respectable job with the ministry. The only way he was able to work there without wanting to kill himself was because he worked with the creatures. Everything was going fine until his daughter decided to protest the mistreatment of dragons and Gringotts. He was actually proud that his daughter actually gave a shit about things. One of his superiors, however, made a jibe about his daughter, implying that she was stupid, her parents were probably scoundrels, and dragons were simply creatures so the way they were treated didn’t matter. Frankly, Aaron didn’t remember punching the man square in the nose as it had all happened so fast, and even so he would have done it again. True, his superior didn’t know that the protester in question was Aaron’s daughter, but that didn’t matter. He was promptly fired, which was fair. He didn’t expect that he’d be blacklisted from working anywhere in the United Kingdom too, but he was. He and his daughter were still welcome to visit, which was a small comfort since his ma and all their friends were there. The only job he was able to find was in Norway. He could have worked for the ministry there he supposed, but frankly…he’d rather be dead than work in government again.
